The Pan-African Catholic Theology and Pastoral Network (PACTPAN) is a group of African scholars and pastoral agents who work in the Catholic tradition. They aim to create a better Church and society in Africa by engaging with the challenges and opportunities of Christian expansion in the continent. They do this by thinking differently and working collaboratively in new ways every day.

A Better Church and Society Is Possible in Africa

Pactpan is an inclusive space where African Catholic scholars, church leaders, grassroots pastoral agents, social justice leaders, and change agents collaborate. It is much like an African village square. The network was founded on December 10, 2019, after the First Pan-African Catholic Congress on Theology, Society, and Pastoral Life. PACTPAN is housed at the Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology (CWCIT), DePaul University, with offices in Nairobi, Abuja, Lubumbashi, and Rome.

Inspired by Hope and Faith to Serve God’s People in Africa

Membership is open to African Catholic scholars and pastoral workers in social ministries, social justice work, healthcare, leadership, and education. Other religious traditions can join PACTPAN as partners. The network members are committed to listening to God’s message through the voices of God’s people in Africa, especially the poor. They are inspired by hope and faith and aim to serve God’s people in Africa through their prophetic commitments. They believe the entire world will benefit in the idea that a better Church and society is possible in Africa.

Vowed to Promote, Create, Curate, and Celebrate the Best Pastoral Practices

Their mission is to identify and develop a comprehensive set of pastoral practices to help address the most pressing issues faced by the African Church and society. They realize this objective through a meticulous and curated range of innovative solutions that have been tested and proven successful in tackling problems such as poverty, inequality, conflict, and health crises. Through collaboration with experts, community leaders, and stakeholders, they strive to create a platform that celebrates and promotes the adoption of these best practices across the continent. Finally, with a focus on sustainability and impact, their ultimate goal has always been to drive positive change and improve the lives of millions of people in Africa.

Finally, because Pactpan is committed to the idea that a better Church and society is possible in Africa, the members are convinced that you also have the opportunity to contribute to this transformation movement.
