PACTPAN Army Against Trafficking in Persons
The PACTPAN Army Against Trafficking in Persons is the dedicated formation and action arm of the Pan African Catholic Theology and Pastoral Network Against Trafficking in Persons (PACTPAN). It is a continental movement committed to the prevention of human trafficking through education, awareness creation, and the promotion of human dignity across Africa.
Guided by Catholic Social Teaching.
The work of the PACTPAN Army Against Trafficking in Persons is firmly grounded in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching. It draws inspiration from the Church’s moral and social tradition, especially the defense of human dignity, the preferential option for the poor and vulnerable, solidarity, and the call to justice and the common good.
In this light, the Army functions not only as an educational network but as a moral formation movement that seeks to shape consciences and build societies where every person is respected, protected, and free from exploitation.
A Continental Formation Network
The PACTPAN Army operates in over 30 countries across Africa, forming a wide continental network of schools, parishes, universities, and communities. It brings together students, educators, religious leaders, and community members in a shared mission of prevention through knowledge and formation.
Rather than a military structure, the “Army” represents a disciplined and organized moral force committed to vigilance, awareness, and action against human trafficking.
Education and Awareness at the Core
At the heart of the PACTPAN Army is continuous education and awareness creation. Throughout the year, structured programs are implemented in schools and communities to equip young people with knowledge about human trafficking, its risks, and its prevention.
A key feature of this formation process is the establishment of school-based clubs and associations, which serve as centers of learning, dialogue, and peer education.
Currently, the PACTPAN Army operates through over 300 active clubs with a membership of more than 30,000 students and community participants across Africa. These clubs form the foundation of grassroots awareness and youth engagement.
Annual Continental Moments of Unity
The PACTPAN Army is united each year through two major continental observances:
February 8 – International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking
A day dedicated to prayer, reflection, and awareness-building rooted in the dignity of the human person.
July 30 – World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
A coordinated moment of education, school engagement, and community awareness across all participating countries.
These annual events strengthen continental solidarity and renew commitment to the protection of human dignity.
A Movement of Formation and Conscience
The PACTPAN Army Against Trafficking in Persons is ultimately a formation movement inspired by faith and guided by Catholic Social Teaching. It seeks to form consciences, empower communities, and build a culture where human dignity is protected and trafficking is actively resisted through education, awareness, and moral responsibility.
