Stan Chu Ilo is a research professor of World Christianity and African studies at the Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology. He is an Honorary Professor of Theology and Religion at Durham University, U.K .
Stan is the principal convener of the Pan-African Catholic Congress on Theology, Society, and Pastoral Life. The central concern of his current research is on developing some methods for theological education in Africa, as well as reform and renewal in the Roman Catholic Church, especially guided by the call of Pope Francis for a missionary conversion.
Additionally, he conducts research on social issues with regard to cultural and human development, racism, civil society, ecology, human rights, pastoral leadership, politics, and global health inequity and solidarity.
He is one of the editors of Concilium International Catholic Journal and serves on the board of directors of Concilium. He is also the founder and member of the Canadian Samaritans for Africa. He is the 2017 recipient of the Afro-Global Excellence Award for Global Impact.
